Natural Blood Sugar Control

You Have a Lot of Choices for Improving Diabetes Control, Naturally!

This is not a comprehensive diabetes site. It is not produced by medical professionals. It is merely a way to share some information that has been gathered about controlling diabetes, or improving diabetes control, through diet, natural foods, supplements, and other practical strategies.

Personal Experience: When my blood sugar got out of control last fall, I had no medical insurance. We planned on getting insurance in two months, so I could not afford to have a diagnosis of diabetes before our insurance kicked in. I had to find ways to control my blood sugar without relying on a doctor. This meant relying on natural supplements and dietary strategies.

I had previous experience with using insulin (during a pregnancy), and knew I was allergic to the one type I could get from the previous prescription. I also knew how to balance my diet to best control my blood sugar. But when I got to where I could not even consume 15 grams of carbohydrate at a meal without a 2 hour post prandial reading of 190, I knew I had to do something to hang on until our insurance was active.

I found a natural treatment that worked. But my blood sugar continued to rise. So I researched again until I found another item that worked. I did this for several months, even after our insurance was active, simply because I knew it was in my best interest to delay the use of insulin as long as possible because of my allergy - I would have to be referred to an endocrinologist, and then an allergist, and the whole process would be very expensive. I found many different things that made a difference in my blood sugar control, and happened on some other things that helped my specific problems as well.

I am VERY strict about what I will or will not take. I have only tried those foods, herbs, and supplements which I feel absolutely certain are not only safe for me, but which are also safe for pregnancy. Many people feel that if it is natural that there are no risks, but that is not true. Medications have side effects, and so do most herbs. So choosing to take an herb is just as significant a choice as a prescription or over the counter medication. In fact, I feel there is no real difference between the two in safety. Overdosing on supplements is also a very real concern, so taking just anything is not wise.

Today, my blood sugar is under control through strict diet, and a few daily supplements which have been carefully chosen for safety. I will most likely have to use insulin in the near future, but for now I can maintain superior control through diet and about three or four supplements.

We are not trying to sell you our supplement. Much of the information online is presented by people who are trying to sell you their product, so that information is somewhat biased. Our site is supported by third party ads, and not by products we are trying to sell you. The only reason this information is being presented is because we desire to share experiences and knowledge which may be of use to some people.

We do not recommend that anyone stop medications that have been prescribed, or that herbs in general are a replacement for insulin, but rather that certain dietary measures, and other healthy strategies can help you to improve control so that if you are on insulin or medications, that they can work more efficiently. Diabetes is not something to mess around with. It must be taken seriously, and controlling it should be a joint effort between you and your doctor.

If however, you fall into that category of having high blood sugar, but not high enough for a doctor to diagnose diabetes, then you will need to focus on dietary control, and on figuring out how your body specifically reacts to the foods and herbs that you have available to you. The experiences and information within this website can provide you with a place to start, and an idea of what might help, but your body will react differently than the author's did. You must choose carefully based on your health, and understand that anything you do try has risks associated with it. We are providing this site for informational purposes only, and not to replace the proper care of a physician. Use this site at your own risk.
